Hammer of Witches Book Tour

HammerBegoña Echeverria, author of The Hammer of Witches is beginning another book tour this Monday, October 19th. She will be traveling on both coasts reading from her book and autographing copies as well. On October 21st she is being interviewed by KVCR 91.9, in San Bernadino, as part of the station's KVC-aRTs program. The interview will be aired on Wednesday at 7pm, and again on Sunday, October 25th at 6pm. For a complete list of dates and events click here. Utah Cold Case

Cold_caseOur friends at the Basque Club of Utah were recently visited by a representative of the Summit County Sheriff's Office at their last club meeting. The Sheriff's office is working to solve a cold case from 1982, and they believe that the victim may be of Basque descent. Details of the case can be seen here. The Western Literature Association

LaxaltThe Western Literature Association will be celebrating its 50th annual conference October 14-17, 2015 at Harrah's in Reno, NV. This year's conference is featuring several Basque-related events including bestowing the Distinguished Achievement Award posthumously to Robert Laxalt. Other Basque-related events include a session on Thursday, Robert Laxalt: Regional and Transnational Contexts with presentations by David Rio from the University of the Basque Country, Gretchen Skivington from Great Basin College in Elko, NV, and Monika Madinabeitia from Mondragon University also in the Basque Country. There is a second session on Thursday entitled, Basque Voices in the American West, with presentations by Basque-American writers, Martin Etchart from Phoenix College, Gregory Martin of the University of New Mexico, and Monique Laxalt, from Reno, NV. Finally, on Saturday, the Center for Basque Studies' own Iker Saitua, ABD, will present "'Basque Bascos' to 'White Subjects': Basque Sheepherders and Racial Narratives in the American West" during the session entitled, Crossing Borders: Engaging in the Borderlands of Race and Identity.
