Basque Golfer Jon Rahm Wins Masters on Aberri Eguna

Jon Rahm - EuskalkazetaMany golf enthusiasts had a roller coaster ride last weekend at the 2023 Masters Golf Tournament at the historic Augusta National Golf Club. Horrible weather on Friday and Saturday prevented much of the tournament from taking place, but on Sunday, April 9th, Easter Sunday, and Aberri Eguna, Basque golfer, Jon Rahm, came out on top.  Rahm is from Barrika, Bizkaia and came to the United States on a golf scholarship to Arizona State University, where he graduated with a BA in Communications. Rahm has held the number one golfer in the world spot in the past, but this is his first Masters win. Rahm credits his dad, Edorta, for getting him into the game. Apparently, Edorta started playing golf after watching the 1997 Ryder Cup where Seve Ballesteros led the European team to a victory.  Jon met Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal at a golf banquet at the age of 12, and now the rest is history. Jose Maria Olazabal was on hand on Sunday to congratulate Rahm on his victory that made him the 4th contender from “Spain” to win the green jacket. Zorionak Jon! Merezi duzu eta!
