2023 Edition of Euskal Herriko Dantzari Eguna

EDBThis year’s Euskal Herriko Dantzari Eguna will take place on October 7, 2023 in Donostia.  As in prior editions, dance groups from all over the Basque Country, as well as the Diaspora are invited to participate.  Groups outside of the Basque Country are invited to provide a video of the group performing a dance that will be broadcast during the event.  The entire event will also be livestreamed for all to enjoy.  If your dance group is interested in participating, please fill out this registration form.

 

Enrollment for School for Equality Has Been Extended

School for EqualityAs we reported last week, the Basque Government is sponsoring training sessions on May 6th and 13th as part of its “School for Equality – Euskal Etxeak” initiative. Experts in the field will present the “Equality as a Quality Element in the Management of the Euskal Etxeak” in English, and the deadline to enroll has now been extended to May 5th.  Please click here to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

 

45th Annual Fresno Basque Festival

Fresno 2023The Fresno Basque Club will host its 45th Annual Basque Festival this Saturday, May 6th at the Campos Bros. Farm in Caruthers, California.  Gates open at 9am and the festivities will begin with mass at 10:30am followed by a lamb BBQ from 12:30-2pm.  Cost of the lunch is $30 for adults and $15 for children 7-11, children under the age of 6 eat free.  In the afternoon chorizo sandwiches will also be available for purchase. The afternoon will be full of Basque dancing, music, lots to do for the kids, and a great opportunity to catch up with old friends.  Admission is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit them on Facebook.

 

Powder River Basin Sheepherders Festival

Sheepherders Festival

The 2nd Annual Sheepherder’s Festival will take place this weekend, May 5th and 6th at the Rockpile Museum in Gillette, Wyoming. The event will run from 9am-4pm each day and will feature various activities including presentations by David Romtvedt, performances by the Big Horn Basque Club’s Zaharrer Segi dancers, and sheep dog demonstrations, to name a few. “This event will focus on both the historic and modern culture of working sheep in the Powder River Basin from the Scots and Basque who immigrated here at the turn of the 20th century to the modern Quechua Sheepherders who come from their mountain homes of South America to work the sheep of Wyoming.” The festivities will take place just below the Rockpile Museum in the field next to Fire Station #1, with an entrance into the parking zone on 1st Street.
