Palm Sunday in San Francisco
Hard to believe that Easter is right around the corner! Please join the Bay Area Basque Community in celebrating Palm Sunday on March 24th. The day will begin with mass at Notre Dame des Victoires Church with the participation of the Elgarrekin Choir and Klika. After mass, the enjoy some hot chocolate an croissants in the church hall before making your way to the Basque Cultural Center for some handball games with local players. The Palm Sunday Luncheon will begin at 12:30pm along with the Easter Basket Raffle. There will also be a surprise guest for the kids after lunch. BEO Film Screening
The Basque Educational Organization will be showing the film El Vasco/Dear Grandma, directed by Jabi Elortegi, tonight, March 14th beginning at 7pm at the Basque Cultural Center. Zea Mays
As previously reported, Zea Mays, one of the Basque Country’s most accomplished and celebrated rock bands, will be performing at the Boise Basque Center on Saturday, March 23rd. Tickets can be purchased from the TreeFort Music Festival website by clicking on Buy Now, then scroll until you see Basque Center. Mendiko Euskal Cluba Mus Tournament
Please join the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba for its annual NABO Qualifying Mus Tournament, this Saturday, March 16th at the Carson Valley Inn. Chick-in will begin at 7:30am and play will begin as soon as check in is complete. Absolutely, no late registrations will be accepted, so please respond by emailing Teresa Cox by Thursday, today, March 14th by 5pm. Mus Tournament News
Last weekend the Elko Euzkaldunak hosted its annual Sheepherder’s Ball and Mus Tournament. On Saturday, the Sheepherders ball enjoyed a capacity crowd, and besides enjoying a great meal, a wonderful time was had by all, including dancing to the sounds of Amerikanuak. On Sunday, 17 teams gathered for the club’s NABO Qualifying Mus Tournament. At the end of the day, the Salla sisters, Pauline and Marie Jeanne took first place, with father son duo, Jess and Mikel Lopategui taking second place. Also on Saturday, the Euskal Lagunak Basque Club in Mountain Home, ID hosted its NABO Qualifying Mus Tournament, with Javier Arrieta and Jose Eguren taking first place. The Southern California Basque Club also hosted its Mus Tournament on Sunday, March 10th. Winners there were Mitch Gariador and Steve Jaureguy and Joe Jr. and Mark Jaureguy coming in second. First place winners at these tournaments will now go on to represent their respective clubs at the NABO Mus Finals in Gardnerville in June. Zorionak deneri!
