Basque Government Grants for Basque Clubs
The Basque Government has published the call for the 2024 Basque club/federation grants. The budget for 2024 grants totals 980,000 Euros with 800,000 designated for grants regarding operating costs and activities, and the remaining 180,000 Euros designated for infrastructure expenses. The maximum award available for Basque clubs is 30,000 Euros and federations are eligible for 50,000 Euros. All grant related activities must take place during the 2024 calendar year. The deadline to apply is May 6, 2024, and complete information is available here.
Lehendakari Jose Antonio Ardanza (1941-2024)
On a sadder note, we also learned of the death of former Lehendakari Jose Antonio Ardanza, the longest serving Lehendakari, at the age of 82. Lehendakari Ardanza is also the only Lehendakari to be received by a president of the United States. On March 2, 1988, Lehendakari Ardanza was accompanied by Senator Paul Laxalt, and Idaho’s Secretary of State, Pete Cenarrusa, along with other dignitaries, to the White House where he had the chance to talk to President Reagan as well as present him with a Makila. Richard Etulain Book Tour: Boyhood Among the Woolies
Richard Etulain, a prize-winning historian that specializes in the history of the American West and who recently published Boyhood among the Woolies: Growing Up on a Basque Sheep Ranch, will be on a book tour beginning on April 13th at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise. On April 14th, he will be Homedale Idaho, at the Txoko Ona Basque Club. Next on to the Ontario Oregon Basque Club on the 15th, and finally to the Euskal Lagunak Basque Club in Mountain Home on April 16th. For more information about the book, or the author, click here. Susanville Basque Club Mus Tournament
The Susanville Basque Club will host its annual NABO Qualifying Mus Tournament this Saturday, April 13th beginning at 8am, at Lassen Senior Services. Check-in begins at 8:30am with play beginning at 9:30am. Cost to participate is $50 per player plus $20 Basque club dues. The Mus fees include lunch for players, and others wishing to join in for lunch can do so for $20. All fees are payable at the door. For more information visit them on Facebook.
