Basque Museum Euskara Class Offerings
If you have been considering learning Basque this year, the Basque Museum and Cultural Center is offering both in person and online classes at various levels including beginners, intermediate or advanced conversation. Please check out your options here, and remember that the deadline to enroll is January 15th. If you are a member of a NABO member club, you are also eligible for a discount. Classes begin as early as January 27th, so don’t wait! Complete information is available on their website.
Olentzero Visited Gooding at First Friday Dinner
Our friends at the Gooding Basque Association recently celebrated their first First Friday Dinner of 2025. The evening included a delicious dinner of lamb chops, lamb ribs, ham, rice, soup, salad and Basque bread The crowd enjoyed holiday performances by the Gooding Gazteak dancers and there was also a special appearance by the Olentzero for the little ones. Joxe Mallea Has Published a Website on Aspen Carvings
Dr. Joxe Mallea, who has dedicated a large part of his life chronicling Aspen tree carvings left by Basque sheepherders, let us know that he has a new website, basquehistory.com. The site includes articles on carvings found in both California and Nevada, along with some of his more academic work as well. Everyone is invited to peruse the site to see if any of your relatives may have left a carving there. Mila esker Joxe!
NABO Euskara Coordinator Position Available
As announced at the Fall NABO Meeting in Grand Junction, Dr. Edurne Arostegui has stepped down as NABO Euskara Coordinator. This announcement was made prior to the meeting but to date, no applications for this position have been received. If you know of anyone who may be interested, the job description and directions on how to apply can be found here. On behalf of everyone at NABO, we would like to thank Edurne for her hard work and dedication during her tenure as coordinator. Thanks to her, we have enjoyed larger enrollments and an increased interest in our program. Mila esker Edurne and hopefully we can keep this momentum going!
Ascona Memorial Mus Tournament
Please join the Southern California Basque Club on Sunday, January 12th for the Ascona Memorial Mus Tournament. The event will take place at Brinderson Hall at the Chino Fairgrounds.
