NABO's 40th Anniversary Festivities

As part of NABO's 40th anniversary festivities, in conjunction with the NABO convention and our host's, Elko's Euzkaldunak Basque club's 50th anniversary, this year's convention promises to be a very special weekend that will include special commemorations throughout. As part of NABO's celebration a special montage is being created that will feature a picture from member clubs the year they joined NABO, along with a more recent photo. If you club/organization hasn't submitted a photo yet, you still have time. Please send these to webmaster@nabasque.eus ASAP.

NABO's past presidents and/or family members have also been invited to participate in the weekend and ride on the NABO float on Saturday. NABO's longevity is greatly due to the commitment and vision of these individuals and this is an opportunity for us to thank them again for a job well done. Past presidents include: Al Erquiaga, Jim Ithurrale, Jacque Unhassobiscay, Frank Maitia, Janet Inda, Francois Pedeflous, Dave Eiguren, Jean Leon Iribarren, Steve Mendive, Bob Echeverria, Pierre Etcharren, Mary Gaztambide. Eskerrik asko bihotzez! See a list of all NABO officers since 1973.

Sunday will also include the presentation of this year's Bizi Emankorra awards to Jim Ithurralde and Bob Goicoechea. This award is voted on by the current NABO delegates, and is presented to people who have made an extraordinary contribution to Basque culture in the US. This year's awardees were instrumental in the early days of NABO and have also been very active in their local Basque communities. This year's award ceremony will take place on Sunday after mass at Elko's Euskal Etxea.

Migration of NABO's Web Site

You may have noticed the web site's new look. We're taking advantage of our 40th anniversary to unveil it although work continues. Over 100 pages have been updated so far. While the migration continues, the old site will still be available. Eventually the old site will be removed and replaced. We hope the drop-down menu makes finding things a little easier. The final version will also feature a search box.

New Site

The header of the new design includes a slideshow representing various facets of NABO. If you would like to see your favorite NABO activities highlighted there, please send photos! We cannot display them all at one time, but the assortment will be changed from time to time. If you are interested in sending photos, please be aware of the unique dimensions of the display space. Photos must be cropped: 600 px wide x 147 px tall at 72 DPI. If you think it might work, send it to us and we'll let you know.
